- The RESTful cookbook
restcookbook.com
on 04/02/2013
Excerpt: REST is hot! And REST is finally rediscovered by API programmers all over the world. But REST isn't always as easy as it seems on first look. Dealing with HATEOAS, Code on demand and uniform interfaces can be really tricky and many people will fall back to not-so-restful approaches when things are starting to become more difficult. But it doesn't need to be. Once you get to know REST, you will like it. The RESTful cookbook website is inspired by the puppetcookbook from Dean Wilson, who created cookbook recipes on how to deal with some of the issues people are facing over and over again when using the Puppet Configuration management tool.... read the full post.

Keen IO releases API for /dev/null

Excerpt: We help developers build analytics & reporting features directly into their apps, without having to build their own infrastructure. Create an Account Follow on Twitter
If you’ve ever used a computer, chances are the person who built that computer has used /dev/null. /dev/null is the unsung Unix hero, dutifully discarding exhaust from noisy programs. It’s like a programmer’s Recycle Bin, with one major difference – there’s no “Restore”. Ironically, it’s exactly that limitation that’s thrust /dev/null into the spotlight as a new alternative to traditional big data management. Why now?... read the full post.

Building a Docs Site with Jekyll + GitHub Pages | Jetstrap Blog
blog.jetstrap.com
on 04/02/2013
Excerpt: Today we are happy to announce the very first version of our Jetstrap Documentation site running on GitHub Pages using Jekyll as the site generator. If you don’t know about us, Jetstrap makes it super easy to build Twitter Bootstrap interfaces and designs (try it, it’s free). Since our tool has a lot of little features, we’ve had a lot of requests for better documentation and tutorials. I wanted to build something that was easy to maintain, “open” so others could collaborate and submit content, and fast. GitHub Pages is perfect for that. Getting started with GitHub pages is always a bit of a pain. I forget how to push content to it, what URL to access the site with, how to set up a CNAME so we can use docs. jetstrap.... read the full post.

Excerpt: Over the past few years I've been spending more and more time building and working with web APIs. To me, APIs are absolutely fascinating, and they've quickly become my favorite branch of technology to work on. Last year, I even built a quite successful API company (OpenCNAM), which allows developers to easily get Caller ID data. I've also built a good number of other APIs over the past several years:
An API that allows users to create, edit, and modify teleconferencing chat rooms. An API that allows users to instantly create an ephemeral PostgreSQL database (postgression). An API for compressing HTML pages. An API for storing, approving, and displaying programming quotes. And quite a few others.... read the full post.

URL Search Tool!

on 03/05/2013
Excerpt: A couple months ago we announced the creation of the Common Crawl URL Index and followed it up with a guest post by Jason Ronallo describing how he had used the URL Index. Today we are happy to announce a tool that makes it even easier for you to take advantage of the URL Index! URL Search is a web application that allows you to search for any URL, URL prefix, subdomain or top-level domain. The results of your search show the number of files in the Common Crawl corpus that came from that URL and provide a downloadable JSON metadata file with the address and offset of the data for each URL. Once you download the JSON file, you can drop it into your code so that you only run your job against the subset of the corpus you specified.... read the full post.
