Android and iOS Mobile Device Development with Azure Mobile Services using HTML5 and JavaScript
www.codeproject.com on

Excerpt: In this tutorial I’m going to show you how you can build a cross-platform mobile app with Azure Mobile Services using HTML5 and JavaScript. I'll be using the following sample code: I’m going to adapt the sample todo app that’s part of the Get started with Mobile Services tutorial. You’ll notice that there are already tutorials for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 but the problem with these, excluding WP8, is that you need to use an environment other than Visual Studio. This might be OK if you’re already familiar with Java, Objective C, Eclipse, and XCode, but is obviously less than ideal if you’re not. Never fear though: if your background is almost any flavour of.... read the full post.

Microsoft Azure Sales Top $1 Billion Challenging Amazon
feedproxy.google.com on

Excerpt: Gartner estimates total cloud market at $108. 9 billions in 2012 and growing to $237. 2 billions in 2017. (nb: I find this one weird as it includes online advertising and other less-cloudy-services-imo). Amazon hasn’t given many details about the AWS platform, except 3 numbers: number of objects stored in S3. This has been doubling every year for the last 4 yearsQ4 2012: 1. 3trillions While I don’t have any data about RDS and Dynamo, it would be great if Microsoft would release any details about Azure. ✚ If AWS has a market share of 71% and Azure 20%, that leaves Google plus others with 9%. Makes me wonder how accurate this data is.... read the full post.

Microsoft’s Azure passes $1B in annual revenue, as subscriptions grow 48% in 6 months
feedproxy.google.com on

Excerpt: Today in an interview conducted by Bloomberg’s Dina Bass, Microsoft revealed a number of performance statistics concerning its Azure cloud IaaS and PaaS service. Azure competes with similar offerings from Rackspace, and the current market leader, Amazon’s AWS suite. Azure and related software now command $1 billion in yearly revenue. That is, over the past 12 months, Azure accrued one billion dollars in revenue. Its forward run rate is likely higher than that figure.  This places the service into the coveted ‘billion dollar club,’ a key metric for internal business units at the software giant. Microsoft also revealed to Bloomberg that Azure “subscriptions” are up 48% in the past half-year.... read the full post.

Windows Azure add-on for cloud-based image management
cloudinary.com on

Excerpt: Call us prejudice, but as a hardcore Linux guys, the name Microsoft always caused us to flinch a little. That was our initial reaction when we were approached by the Azure team. We have been integrating Cloudinary with many PaaS providers to make our platform as accessible as possible, and Azure actually made perfect sense. Still, we were a bit hesitant at first as we never considered Microsoft a leading player in the world of rapid web & mobile development.   As you may have figured out, we were very impressed by Microsoft's Windows Azure cloud platform and the great team behind it. The Windows Azure platform boasts powerful built-in support for modern development frameworks popular among both enterprises and small startup companies.... read the full post.

Pusher Now Available Through Windows Azure Mobile Services Platform
blog.pusher.com on

Excerpt: We’re pleased to announce that Pusher is now available as an add-on to Windows Azure Mobile Services apps through the Microsoft Windows Azure Store. With this partnership it’s now possible to add realtime web functionality that goes far beyond simple notifications, to offering the potential for much richer interactive and collaborate application experiences. Our first tutorial covers how to synchronise Todo list data between Windows Azure and an iOS app. It does this by using Mobile Services server scripts which listen to Windows Azure data change events (think database triggers). Azure DataMarket + BigML = Powerful Insights
blog.bigml.com on

Excerpt: BigML has made the process of creating a predictive model from a dataset one-click easy. For example, a store owner can use her sales data to predict the optimal inventory levels given the time of year.  But what if you have an idea for a model, for example predicting the unemployment rate for London Boroughs based on demographic information, but you don’t have the data? While it is trivial to build this model with BigML once you have data, where do you get it and how do you know if the data is from a reliable source? This is where data markets shine, providing an easy to search repository of curated datasets that can be combined with your own data to build models with more meaningful insights.... read the full post.
