Public Transit

Public transit is one area that has seen API growth, not because of innovation within the municipal transit authorities, but out of need.

Built by tech savvy commuters, who often scrape the sites of their local transit authority, build APIs and mobile applications that other developers can use.

APIs deliver real-time information to mobile and web applications, and bus, train, subway, tram, ferry and other local transit can benefit greatly from everything an API brings.

Many public transit APIs start with a simple need--to know when the bus or train is coming.

Providing up-to-date transit information to users via their iPhone, Android and other smart phone, or just via SMS goes a long way in making the lives of every day commuters much easier.

We are seeing a major grass-roots movement by various developers to build APIs, mobile apps and other tools around transit systems, but governments are unable to move fast enough to meet the demand and citizens are stepping up.

Public transit APIs will definitely see major growth in the next 5 years to satisfy the demand of the every day worker.
