Bookmarking
Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to organize, store, manage and search for bookmarks of resources online. Unlike file sharing, the resources themselves aren't shared, merely bookmarks that reference them.
While employing social bookmarking, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains.
Delicious is widely considered to be the leader in the social bookmarking space by providing a dead simple tool for enabling users to bookmark whats important to them, but also employing a novel, human readable URL scheme that allow users the ability to navigate bookmarks while also providing machine access via a REST-like API and RSS feeds through the same URL structure.
Delicious help set the standard for not just social bookmarking, but also the simplistic vision of RESTful APIs.
